IELTS General Training practice: reading and writing

IELTS General Training preparation benefits from regular practice with everyday texts, clear writing and spoken explanations. Start with the original reading activity below, check the evidence for your answer and use the platform to practise the four skills. These independent exercises are not official IELTS papers and do not provide an IELTS band score.

Use a sustainable study routine

Rotate reading, listening, writing and speaking across the week. After listening to a short recording, explain its main message without reading a transcript. Record a spoken answer and listen for unclear ideas or repeated phrases. Keep a record of errors and revisit them after a few days. Use the language lessons to review a recurring grammar problem. Platform timers and practice results help you track your work; they are not a certified mock exam or a prediction of your result. Check the official IELTS website for current General Training test information before booking.

Original practice with an explained answer

Staff may reserve a meeting room up to seven days in advance. Reservations must be cancelled at least two hours before the start time. If a room is still empty fifteen minutes after the booking begins, it may be used by another team.

When may another team use a booked room?

  1. Immediately after it is reserved.
  2. When it remains empty fifteen minutes after the booking starts.
  3. Only seven days after the booking.
Answer and explanation

When it remains empty fifteen minutes after the booking starts.

The final sentence gives the condition: the room must still be empty fifteen minutes after the booking begins. The seven-day limit concerns advance reservations, not access by another team.
